Be greeted adventurers and mystery hunters. We’ve got a bag full of interesting finds for you to check. Welcome to the 4th episode of our series.

Save from forgetting

Do you like fansites? If you read this article the answer is probably “yes”. The history of tibian fansites began back in 1998, so not even in the current century. The first known tibian fansite was Yorin’s site and it looked like that (unfortunately the images are not available nowadays – this is what is left). It also had a music theme playing in the background, which was pretty common in those days.

You could find a lot of subpages there, such as:

It appears that the site was quite comprehensive and had quite a lot of info useful for players. Due to the fact that this is the first tibian fansite ever, it deserves to be remembered. You can visit the saved version on the site using the Wayback Machine engine.

Here is the link: https://web.archive.org/web/20020802092509if_/http://public.rz.fh-wolfenbuettel.de:80/~szallies/tibia/

If the 1st tibian fansite from 1998 seems to be oldschool, how about the 1st official site created by Stephan?

Let’s go back to early 1997 when Tibia was still just a small project started by 4 university students.

Surprisingly, the saved copy of the site works good enough to lurk around for very interesting things. We can find some screenshots, manual and development plans. It appears that Tibia was in Alpha phase, but there were already concrete plans to make it more player-friendly and versatile.

The archived version of the site can be found here:

But it has to be mentioned that Dark Gladir had these sites (and many more) listed in his archive before the thread was created. We encourage you to visit his repository:

Star Wars

You have probably heard the jokes about Luke Skywalker from Star Wars.

They managed to find their way into pop-culture. But what does it have to do with Tibia? Let’s visit NPC Guide Luke – we can find him near the ship in Thais. If we ask him about his name, his response will be:

Interesting isn’t it? Let’s try to mock him and check his response to one of the most epic quotes from Star Wars (by Darth Vader).

No doubts. Our Gude Luke is tibian Luke Skywalker.

The specific keywords to trigger this response are “your father”. Thanks to Shawtay for sharing this discovery with us.

Someone in Cipsoft must be a Star Wars fan. We can find one more allusion to that quote in Tibia. It’s one of the battle cries yelled by Darakan the Executioner.

Wrestling

Speaking of Darakan, we have to mention one more battle cry he uses – „To be the man you have to beat the man!”.

Undoubtedly, it’s a motto of a very famous wrestler – Ric Flair. Check how it sounded originally.

Zao raid triggering room

Long time ago, a Cipsoft member – Delany revealed the sreenshot of some very interesting rooms. They are not accessible for regular players. Take a look at the screenshot below:

It’s so-called “raid triggering room”. The purpose of this room is interesting. Once in a while some rats respawn there, who walk onto specific floor tiles which serve as buttons. It triggers various events during the raid, for example, to open the gates of Zzaion or set the walls on fire. It’s interesting, yet quite funny that such events have to be triggered “manually” by creatures and are not programmed to set off automatically.

Make sure to check the official „Making of Zao” article for more information about it:

Classic movies

Secret Service Quest is one of my favourite ones. We eventually meet the Mad Technomancer while going through that quest. Interestingly this boss knows classic movies very well.

„They’re Here” refers to the iconic scene from Poltergeist movie (1982).

„I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse” are words of Vito Corleone’s from The Godfather.

„Gentelmen, you can’t fight in here! This is the War Room!” – these words were said on the set of Dr. Strangelove movie.

„I love the smell of firebombs in the morning.” Refers to Robert Duvall’s quote „I love the smell of napalm in the morning.” from Apocalypse Now.

„Go ahead, make my Day” famous words of Clint Eastwood who portrayed Dirty Harry in Sudden Impact.

„I’m the king of the word!” – You have guessed right! These are words of Leoanardo DiCaprio while standing on the Titanic’s bow.

„You talkin’ to me?” –  it’s Robert DeNiro and his famous role in Taxi Driver.

„You won’t stop me!” –  it probably refers to quote „You will not stop me!” by Imperator Palpatine in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

„You can’t handle the truth!” – famous words by Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Man movie.

What were the players saying about us?

I love how articles uncover more content in Tibia and help me understand Tibian universe better.
